Anaïs, Positive Discipline® expert and trainer at Pop.Pins Academy
Trainer in Positive Discipline and specialist in new educational approaches at Pop.Pins Academy
As a specialist in childcare recruitment in the canton of Geneva and Vaud, we’ve always enjoyed putting the spotlight on all our employees, who make up the richness of our agency! Today it’s the turn of Anaïs, a trainer in positive behaviour and a contributor to the Pop.Pins Academy home nanny course, who has kindly agreed to share her story! This mother of 4, with 25 years’ experience in crèches in Geneva, specialises in new approaches to education. A certified coach and neuro-practitioner, she now supports children, parents and professionals with kindness and expertise. Meet a committed, inspiring and caring professional!
(BeeBoo) Hello Anaïs, can you introduce yourself in a few words and tell us about the journey that brought you to Pop.Pins Academy?
(Anaïs) Hi, I’m Anaïs, mum of 4 children aged between 6 and 20, and parenthood and its many challenges is a subject I’m particularly fond of!
I worked for 25 years in a day nursery in Geneva as an early childhood educator (I graduated from the Ecole Supérieure d’Educatrice et d’Educateurs de l’Enfance de Genève in 2008) and then as a manager working with educational teams.
Over the years, I have worked with children and parents, as well as supporting and training childcare professionals (I graduated as a practitioner trainer from the HES.SO in 2012).
Throughout my career as a childcare professional, but also as a parent, I have been interested in and trained in new educational approaches, and more particularly in Positive Discipline®, which combines benevolence and firmness (Positive Discipline trainer since 2016).
As a professional coach certified by the European Academy of Coaching and a neuro-practitioner certified by the European Academy of Neuroscience, I work independently with children and parents.
I am trained in the prevention, diagnosis and support of parental burn-out, and also trained in the diagnosis and support of behavioural disorders in children by the Training Institute for Psychology and Health.
I now work as an independent coach and therapist with children and parents, and I’m delighted to be a trainer at the Poppins Academy.
What is your role in the POP.PINS ACADEMY HOME NANNY TRAINING course?
In the Poppins Academy’s home nanny training, I take part in module 1, ‘Supporting the child’s development’, with a particular focus on sleep, conflict management and positive discipline, in module 2, ‘Hygiene, health and safety in relation to eating habits’, and in module 5, ‘Communication and interpersonal skills – professional posture’ on the theme of analysing professional practices.
How important are these aspects in today’s nanny profession?
The issues I deal with relate to the child’s intellectual, physical, psychological (or emotional), social and ethical development. Knowledge of children’s overall development has changed a great deal as a result of discoveries in neuroscience, and it’s essential that childcare professionals are up to date with this new knowledge.
Parents are also increasingly well-informed and concerned that their children should be cared for by qualified early years professionals who are up to date with the latest knowledge in childcare, whether in terms of sleep guidance or nutrition.
Positive education, which respects the child while ensuring a safe environment, requires theoretical knowledge as well as practical situations, which are the subject of all the reflective work in the course I run on conflict management.
Finally, the last day of training, on professional posture, is essential for me, because it encourages learners to be able to analyse their professional practices, i.e. to see what works and what doesn’t, to find solutions and to think about ways of improving their practices. This is an essential step in training competent, thoughtful professionals who are capable of evolving in their practices.
What is so special about the POP.PINS ACADEMY’s HOME NANNY TRAINING course? How is it useful?
This course stands out because it offers optimal learning conditions!
– a small group facilitating discussion and the sharing of experience
– warm, lakeside setting
– a very comprehensive and varied programme based on the latest knowledge in education, health and prevention, and employment law
– practical exercises and a reflective approach that enables each learner to play an active role in her training
What is the most valuable advice you could give to an experienced nanny, a young nanny or someone who has this vocation?
My advice to a nanny: get out and meet other childcare professionals, keep training, be curious!
It’s a fascinating profession that deserves to be valued and recognised, and that requires quality training like that offered by the POP.PINS ACADEMY.
Thank you Anaïs!
